SPEED RACER

Built in 1992 - this is the first electrathon vehicle of LAAE. Qualified in last place, during the race it finished in the middle of the pack.

 

 

COOL RUNNINGS

Built in 1994 - this if the first solar vehicle of LAAE. First place win at Winston Solar Challenge in Dallas, Texas, July 1995.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SOLAR SHADOW

Built in 1996 - the Solar Shadow hit a home-run when it completed the World Solar Challenge across the continent of Australia in 1996. Also competed in the Winston Solar Challenge.

 

 

 

 

LIGHT SPEED

Built in 1998 - set a national speed record (100 km in 2 hours 21 minutes) in the Solar BikeRayce USA in Kansas.

 

 

 

HIGH VOLTAGE

Built in 1999 - this is, by far, the nicest paint job on any of the current LAAE fleet. The first race was at the Pentad Nationals Cal State Dominguez Hills Velodrome, June 2000.

 

 

 

 

LIGHT SPEED II

Built in 2000 - Light Speed II is the replacement for Light Speed and it is the most efficient solar vehicle, utilizing the wheel motor. An average speed of 42 MPH at the ZEV Challenge.

 

 

 

 

SOLAR SHADOW II

Built in 2001 - the successor of Solar Shadow, competed in American Solar Challenge in 2001, and was the only high school that finished that race.

 

 

LIGHT SPEED III

Built in 2002 - the newest in our fleet. It has won the national championship in Solar BikeRayce 2002 and has raced in Solar BikeRayce 2003.
