To LASV’s Alumni and Friends:
I am currently a freshman undergraduate at
Stanford University, and I plan to study mechanical engineering.
While I will not work in the engineering department until next year,
my experiences in LAAE have nonetheless given me many advantages. I
often need to give oral reports in my classes, and because I gave
presentations while in LAAE, I am much more confident in public
speaking than I would otherwise be. Also, my calculus class involves
a large amount of computer programming using MATLAB mathematics
software. While other students struggled to grasp programming syntax
and structure for the first time, I had already done a good amount
of Java programming in LAAE, and learning MATLAB programming came
easily. In general, the skills I learned in LAAE that I consider
most valuable are solving problems efficiently and managing an
intense workload. As I begin to work in Stanford's engineering
program, I expect that my experience in LAAE working with machining,
electrical wiring and design will prove very valuable as well.
