Name: Justin Wong
Team: Information Technology
How long you’ve been in Engineering: a total of 2
years, during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 school years. The
2006-2007 year is my first (and will be my only) year in the actual
Engineering class.
Leadership Position Description (what you do as
the team leader): I take a more active role in managing and taking
care of the LAAE website. A lot of the process is trying to restore
and add new pictures as well as making sure viewers of the website
are kept informed about the events that go on in and around
Engineering. Besides taking care of the website, I am primarily
responsible for keeping the computer lab in good operation, located
in Room A14. I also assist in fixing and troubleshooting any
technical problems that the Public Relations and Design teams may
have with their computers, as well as assist in the DARPA Autonomous
Vehicle section of this program. Finally, I am a member of
Microsoft’s Partner Program, which allows Engineering to receive
quarterly updates of Microsoft software that is relevant to us.
What got you interested in Engineering in the
first place: Well, the thought of fixing and managing computers was
always perceived as intriguing to me, as well as something that I
could greatly learn from. It was my first chance to see how real
business networks operate and how important they can be used in the
workplace.
Favorite thing about Engineering: The nice
environment – knowing that I work with people who generally want to
work and are cooperative is something that I most like about
Engineering. I also feel that Engineering has provided me with
something useful and practical, serving for a good purpose.
Most memorable moment in Engineering: My most
memorable moment in Engineering was when I fixed the computer lab
network successfully for the first time, after the server had gone
down due to a software malfunction. I am also proud of the fact that
I had successfully re-enabled user permissions (what a user account
can and can’t do), and had learned to install certain programs over
multiple computers through effective deployment procedures.
Future Plans: Right now, I will currently
continue to work on the Los Altos Academy of Engineering website and
hopefully get it to the best and most current status that it has
been, while keeping the information as accurate as possible. I am
also assisting our DARPA team with configuring the computers that
will be used to pilot our autonomous vehicle. After I leave high
school, I am planning to go into college to major in computer
systems engineering.
