Designed and constructed in 1998, Light Speed was a solar powered vehicle that competed in the Solar BikeRayce USA, S-class, in May 1997 - Topeka, Kansas. It remains one of LAAE's most successful vehicles, setting a national speed record in 1997.

SPECIFICATIONS

Light Speed was designed with dual piston hydraulic disc brakes and a Type I Cell Type solar array. It was constructed with a carbon fiber exterior and a plexiglass window shield, and measured a maximum speed of 3600 rpm. The vehicle also measured 118 x 36 x 20 inches with a weight of 441 pounds.

ACCOLADES

Light Speed participated in the Solar BikeRayce USA, S-class. The solar vehicle set a national record in May 1997, traveling 100 kilometers in 2 hours and 21 minutes.
