VOLT

Volt Header Image

Volt was a Blue Sky kit car built in 1999. Volt sports a 24 Volt system that made it under the weight limit for its race. The vehicle also consists of Powersonic Batteries, a Hot Scott Motor, and disk brakes, and competed in the 2014-2015 Emerald Coast Electrathon. Volt suffered an accident in 2022, but in 2023 we decided to finish repairs on it to have it compete in the 2024 Electric Vehicle Challenge.

SPECIFICATIONS

Volt was built with a 24 Volt System in order to have a lighter weight and an efficient vehicle. Taking the Powersonic Batteries from the past vehicle, Speed Racer, the batteries fit perfectly into Volt. The Hot Scott motor was used for this vehicle with a 1.6 horsepower and uses direct current. The motor weighs 40 pounds and has a maximum speed of 2800 RPM. For easy access to the driver, Volt uses a lever controlled brake. Volt uses disk brakes instead of drum brakes because drum brakes are not supposed to be used to stop vehicles.

ACCOLADES

It competed in the Pentad Nationals Cal State Dominguez Hills Velodrome in June 2000. Volt also ran in the 2014 Emerald Coast Electron in Florida.
